Martin Luther King Jr. (Muli-Color) - Signed Print + 1 of 1 NFT

Martin Luther King Jr. was a prophet in my opinion. Sometimes I go onto Spotify and listen to his speeches... they are INCREDIBLE. This man spoke from the belly of his soul. You can hear the passion and the truth resonating from his voice in every direction. The response from the crowd shows you how in tune with the people he was. He put his body and his life on the line for the cause again and again.

I have a book of his letters that I read, one of his letters was addressed to the president, demanding for the civil rights act to be passed. The president at the time told MLK that he needed to be patient. MLK responded, there is a time for patience in life, this is not one of those times. Some people don't know how much pressure he was putting on the powers that be, though his connection to the community. The march onto Washington for peace was an example of how bad things would get in America if there was no Immediate change.

His belief in non-violence was the tactic that White America was not prepared to fight. MLK was fighting for freedom, he was fighting for justice, he was fighting for our society to be fairer. I believe MLK would look at America today and think that there was a lot of progress made and that there is still a deep need for change.

We are fighting a different battle now. Much of this new battle is internal. There is still much that needs to be addressed in the systematic impacts of slavery and Jim Crow/Segregation laws in this country. Some believe that we should have never integrated... I understand this thought but I think that is a more short-sighted view. Integration has in some way been negative for the Black community, in many ways it has been great for the Black community. So, I think it's important to keep our eye on both of these sides of progression. We can improve the things that need to change and we can continue to foster the parts that are working.

I think America is an example for the rest of the world. Integrating races and cultures is a complicated thing after years of evolution as tribal beings. I don't think it is as simple as black and white, it takes deeper thought and understanding of where we come from to truly understand where we can go.

I am forever grateful for MLK and the energy he brought to this world. I know my life is better because of the way he fought for me and the billions of other Black and Brown people who look like me.
